Article About Liguria - ITALY
Boissano
Boissano is home to the International Centre for Artistic Experimentation. Just 3km from the sea, its landscape varies from orchards to olive groves and vineyards. Boissano once belonged to the Bishops of Albenga but was handed over to the Republic of Genoa by Pope Urban VI in 1385. According to legend, the church of San Paolo dates back to the very early Christian period: a few ruins of it can still be seen. The church of Santa Maria Maddalena and the oratory of San Pietro in Vinculis both date from the 16th century. In the town itself, you will notice characteristic buildings which do not have traditional tiled roofs but terraced roofs that were once used to collect rain water. The "L. Jeanneret" International Centre for Artistic Experimentation is situated in one of the suburbs: it promotes shows, conferences and cultural events. Boissano is also an important agricultural centre. Flat areas are filled by orchards, while the hilly areas are home to olive groves and vineyards. The olive oil produced in the local mills is very well known. Try not to miss the polenta festival at the end of September, when it is served with freshly-picked mushrooms. Our homes, Rh119, Rh120, and Rh122, in Boissano are within walking distance to the local schools and markets. These finished homes are family oriented, with lots of space, great views, and only 3km from the sea.
